Green Eggs and Ham

Green eggs and ham is a delightful book about a dog-alien living in a parallel dimension who will not step out of his comfort zone and try something new.  Because he has never eaten green eggs and has no knowledge about them, he has decided that he hates them.  Throughout the book when another dog-alien named Sam tries to get him to try it he continues to refuse and even mocks Sam's speech impediment by calling him "Sam I am" through the book.  In the end, the dog-alien gives in and tries the green eggs and discovers that he likes it.

I was talking to the postal lady months ago and she told me she did not like guns or shooting.
"So you had a bad experience last time you went?" I asked.
"No I have never tried it"
"Then how do you know you do not like it?" Was my sensible reply.
"I am just not interested I it."
"So you don't like it because you have no knowledge or interest in it"

I wish I had thought to recommend the book "Green eggs and ham" to her.

I have never met someone that I had taken shooting who did not have a good time. I think I will have some eggs and ham now.

You Are Raising a Pussy

I was out with my son and he had his toy MP5K. "MP5 goes bang bang bang!" He yelled.
"I shoot bad guys!"

I got into a discussion with a liberal fart sucker who told me her son was not allowed to play guns.

When boys play with guns they are not playing "School Shooting" or "Assassinate the President" they are casting themselves into the heroic role of good guy who goes out and fights evil. In essence they are establishing the mindset of self empowerment, that they have the power to make the world a better place through their efforts.

Parents who do not let their kids play in a way that affirms their ability to do the right thing (standing up for others, being brave in the face of adversity) run the real risk of having a dis-empowered, disenfranchised child with no sense of duty, honor or community.  And those are the children that grow up and play "School Shooting" for real.

Intelligence, Police and Made up Bogymen

I have attended many counter-terrorism conferences when I was part of the Intelligence Branch of the Canadian Army.  The last conference I attended (2013) was fear mongering the Freeman on the Land Movement (FLM).

Although deranged and perhaps a nuisance, the FLM has not killed anyone.  They do not advocate violent overthrow of government or the mass genocide of those who disagree with their point of view.

Yet back in 2013 I saw political correctness entering the intelligence world and, let me tell you, being politically correct is a poison when it comes to clarity and analysis.  We have millions of dollars and thousands of man-hours chasing an annoyance.  With thought processes like that we might as well turn the might of our intelligence apparatus towards shoplifters.

In an attempt to be racially and ideologically inclusive, like some sick affirmative action program, the chase is on for a non-Islamic based bad guy.

A few weeks ago a RCMP officer was tragically killed outside a casino in St Albert by Shawn Rehn.  Someone posed the question:

My heart is broken for the RCMP member. Indeed the question goes out from the RCMP themselves, "How is/WAS the suspect still on the streets"?

My response (as a gun owner):

How was he still on the streets? I don't want to politicize this or diminish the tragedy but this man was on the streets because he is NOT the focus of law enforcement. We are.... you and I. Every day you are checked on a criminal database. You are required to provide your address to the government like you are on house arrest. They can search your home without a warrant - even a criminal has the right not be arbitrarily searched. They can take your property away with the stroke of a pen. He is on the streets because they are busy watching you. Drug dealers, murderers and thieves take second place to social engineering.

So our intelligence community is chasing FLM and our law enforcers are chasing people with a PAL and there are people who think that taking away more of our privacy and freedoms will fix our ills?  We need to turn our efforts towards legitimate bad guys – Jihads, Drug Dealers and Rapists and stop government agencies from wasting their time on political correctness and social engineering.

Do I Support CGN?

Last year I sold a Viper Sight to a customer in Manitoba.  At this point in time, the sights were brand new and I had only sold 8 locally.  They were so new, in fact, that I had not sent an advertising mail out.  This person was turned on to the Viper sight from someone who purchased one of the 8 first sights.  It performed exactly as advertised and the person was ecstatic that it worked so well.  It was clear, bright and held up to the shock of his SKS.  He went on CGN to spread the news about how happy he was.  By the time the CGN thread started to die out, the CGN population had him convinced that I had somehow cheated him.  These people, who never used my optic, slandered me and my product using fallacious reasoning.  According to them, the only reputable dealers are ones that support CGN.

And that is the crux of the issue.  CGN is the NTOA of Canada.  You pay protection money to keep people quiet which in turn supports a forum whose purpose seems to be to extort more money from firearms business and crap all over those who refuse to pay up.

I will not be bullied by the modern equivalent of gangsters.  I will not pay a ransom to run my business.

No, I will support forums where mature, grown ups come to talk.  Gun Owners of Canada is small but discussion is civil and often filled with ex CGN expats who got tired of the BS or were themselves ostracized for having an opinion that runs contrary to the mindless, circle-jerk, groupthink mentality of the brainwashed freedom of speech hating ass hats who moderate the forum.

Internet Jounalists

I normally do not subscribe to credentialism.  But in the firearms world, I expect people who write or speak about guns to have one of three characteristics:

1) Trained Soldier or contractor.  Even the private who has never deployed has something to offer as his skills have been passed on to him by professionals.

2) Gunsmith.  Even the hobbyist smith who has tinkered and changed some parts has some valid experience he can pass on.  

3) Professional Competitor, specifically someone who is actually good.  A person who has the skills to place in the top 3 of his local 3-gun league is worthy of listening to.  He might not be a national master but he probably has some ideas that are valid.

So in a broad sense, I feel I am very open to those who enter into the realm of “Gun Media” and/or “Gun Journalism” however, when I see 20-something year old kids speaking about guns, writing blogs or making Youtube videos who lack all of these 3 qualities, I get rather upset.   Always remember that the internet does not make you more stupid, it just makes your stupidity more accessible to others.

What Will The Shiny Pony Do?

I have no illusions about who is going to win the next federal election.  It will be Justin Trudeau - The Shiny Pony.  All fancy hair and no substance.

Liberals are known as the architects of the destruction of self-reliance, moral values and traditional society.  Their creative brain power is unmatched in these areas and I can’t even start to guess what they plan to do.

But I do know they will do something about guns.

I have avoided writing this blog entry for months (hence the huge gap between writings).  I wanted to carefully evaluate The Shiny Pony’s options and present them as competing hypothesis.

1) Handgun Ban.

For all intents and purposes, all handguns are registered.  As an election promise, the Evil Paul Martin proposed a handgun ban as his election promise.  The chance of this succeeding is guaranteed.  (Yes I know there will be smuggled handguns but these are statistically insignificant).

2) Move Semi-Autos to Restricted

This would be less palatable to the population then a handgun ban as many high end hunting guns are semi-auto such as the BAR or collectables such as the Garand.  According to the old registry data, the Garand is the most popular semi-auto gun in Quebec.  As much as I fear this, I think it is the least likely of the hypothesis I propose.

3) New Orders in Council

This does not require any legal changes or votes in the house of commons.  Through an Order in Council (OIC), they can move many evil looking guns into restricted and prohibited classes.  They would almost certainly pick VZ58s, Tavors, XCRs and JR Carbines to move to restricted.  Ironically I predict that the Mini-14 and the CX4 (both used in Canadian school shootings) would be left alone.  I don’t think they would name any gun as prohibited due to the outcry from the Swiss Arms fiasco; even non-gun owners considered that to be an unfair, “dick move” by the RCMP.  Regardless of what guns they move to Restricted, the decision will be based on looks alone and not capability.  (My pump action shotgun (when loaded with 00 buck) can fire 54 projectiles down range before being reloaded and can cut a man in half.  My AR15 can fire 5 projectiles down range before being reloaded and has been shown to be highly ineffective in battlezones such as Mogadishu.)

4) Stop PAL Issuance For Restricted Firearms

It would not piss anyone off as people with the Restricted endorsement would not be affected.  It would only stop new people from getting into handguns.  This is like a handgun ban but spaced out over the long term. It would be acceptable to the Canadian public because no one is really getting screwed.  If you didn’t have and handgun before and now you still can’t have one, has anything really been taken away from you?  The truth is Canadians fear handguns the same way Americans fear rifles.

5) Increase Fees for License Renewal

The Liberals are the Party of the rich and privileged and even Nazi elites were still allowed to own personal firearms.  Making a staggeringly huge fee to renew your license will drive the undesirable poor people away from guns.  According to Liberal philosophy, people are victims of their circumstances and have no free will.  In their mind, denying the poor access to potential weapons will decrease the lethality of the crimes that they are forced to commit.

I think these are all options that are politically viable.  What do you think?  What will he do?

If a registry came back into place in Canada or was started in the USA and no-one complied, the registry would still be a success.  That’s right, if 0% of people complied the registry would be a success.

One thing we have learned from the cowardly, teeth chattering, grave dancing, fart-suckers in the anti-gun lobby is their game is a game they plan to play over decades.

When the long gun registry was enacted in 1997 there was an estimated 30-50% compliance (depending on who you talk to).  But the fact that all the guns were not registered is irrelevant.  Every new person coming into the shooting sports was trapped in the registry system.  I was underage in 1997 so I never had the option to “not comply”.  From day one of entering the shooting sports everything I did was tightly monitored and controlled.  I committed no crime but I was more carefully monitored then a convicted crack dealer.

Over the years the spineless gun control advocates knew that time would be on their side.  Those who could have had firearms before the registry would eventually die and leave behind those who were born into the registry.

Eventually  all guns would be either unregistered and buried in PVC tubes (rendering them inert) or registered and ready for confiscation.

People say that the registry was ineffective.  It was not.  It was very effective for if it was left in place, in 20 years time, all guns would be ready for confiscation.  That was the true purpose of the registry; it had nothing to do with crime or safety and as such, was not effective in those roles.
